Over one-third of BC's species-at-risk rely on grassland habitat for survival. Thus, the GCC believes it has a pivotal role to play in facilitating efforts and discussion on grassland species at risk throughout British Columbia.
The GCC has been active in education and outreach about species at risk since it was founded. As part of its committment to the issue, the GCC focused on this issue at its June 2002 Symposium in Cranbrook: Species and Spaces at Risk. As well, the GCC dedicated the entire February 2003 issue of BC Grasslands magazine to this pressing issue.
