The Wester Terrestrial Garter Snake is a dark snake with three fine, yellowish lines running the length of the body and dark markings along the sides. The head is large and distinct from the neck. It feeds on slugs, small mammals, fish, earthworms, amphibians, and leeches. The garter snake make restrain some adult rodents by coiling its body around the animal. Mating takes place in the spring and up to 17 live young are produced. It hibernates in rocky south-facing sites.
