Provincial Technical Advisory Committee

The Provincial Technical Advisory Committee was formed to help create, revise and perfect the methodology and processes that guide the Priority Grasslands Initiative. It was made up of individuals from a number of different backgrounds, including:

  • government
  • agrology
  • ecology
  • biology
  • naturalists
  • First Nations

The committee worked hard to come up with relevant and inclusive terms of reference and working definitions for the Priority Grasslands Initiative. To do so, the group met a number of times over the past few years to:

  • determine the methodology that will be used to identify priority areas
  • make recommendations for use of available rare or important ecosystems and species at risk GIS data inventories and habitat models
  • develop procedure to obtain expert input in areas where GIS data is not available
  • ensure methodology and process is rigorously tested for accuracy in the field
  • develop extension information regarding the initiative
  • review levels for categorizing priority grasslands
