alittleowlyThe stunning photography and captivating writing of Chris Harris' coffee-table-style book combine to stimulate a personal sense of wonder and appreciation of grasslands, their beauty and the life they support.

Spirit in the Grass grew out of a sense of urgency among many groups for wiser conservation and use of British Columbia's grasslands. As the Cariboo-Chilcotin region, in central BC, has one of the last largely intact native grasslands and provides critical habitat to numerous endangered species of animals and plants, it was natural for Harris to focus his camera lens on the area.

The book provides a journey of discovery. And along the way, it enhances the public's appreciation of BC's grassland ecosystems and the principal threats to them. The dramatic photographs of grassland landscapes, plants and animals complement an informative and enjoyable text. Conservation actions being taken are also addressed, along with descriptions of principal threats to BC grasslands, such as urban expansion, weeds and intensive agriculture.
