Ecosystems and Species at Risk

Throughout the 1990s, the Environmental Stewardship Division of the Ministry of Environment created a series of brochures to profile various wildlife species considered to be biologically "at risk" in the province. The brochure series explains:

• what these species look like;
• how they reproduce;
• what they eat;
• where they live;
• why they are at risk, and
• what the public can do to help.

The series also includes a brochure that explains the way species at risk are evaluated by environmental agencies and provides a framework for the entire classification program. Click on the links below to read the brochures.

Another series was developed to provide information about BC's endangered geographical regions. The ecosystems at risk brochures explain:

• unique features and characteristics of the endangered areas;
• reasons for the at risk classification;
• ways to protect the areas; and the
• history of the regions.
