The GCC believes that the key to promoting grassland stewardship and achieving grassland sustainability over the long term is to develop and deliver a well-integrated education program with a strong outreach component
Outreach is the process of educating people and organizations, and assisting them in applying that information and knowledge to day-to-day activities. Outreach is best defined by:
bringing together the required people, knowledge, and other resources to achieve desired goals;
facilitating the flow and dissemination of information;
encouraging organizations, groups, and individuals to work on problems and develop new opportunities;
offering specific ideas for change through demonstration; and
informing planning and decision making processes.
The GCC and its partners have a number of ongoing education and outreach projects to ensure there are a variety of ways for the people of BC to access information about the council and its programs.

BC Grasslands Magazine
BC Grasslands Magazine is published by the GCC to raise awareness about grassland conservation and stewardship. The magazine is intended to provide a forum for discussions about grassland ecology, range management, grassland conservation and stewardship initiatives. The magazine also informs the readership about the current activities being undertaken by the GCC and by other grassland programs in British Columbia.

BC Grasslands Educational Display
The GCC has developed a portable display that is available to anyone in the province of British Columbia who would like to set up an educational table about grasslands at a conference, symposium, school activity or community event. The display is eye-catching and informative and provides an attractive visual component to any discussion about the GCC and its programs.

Annual Symposium / Workshop
Each year, the GCC hosts a symposium or workshop for its members and the general public. The event highlights a specific aspect of grasslands and serves as an educational forum, social gathering and program stimulator for the GCC. Past symposiums and workshops have covered a diverse number of topics including:
In June 2007, the GCC will be hosting a symposium in Kelowna, BC. Its theme will be fragmentation and development.

Grasslands Public Service Announcements (PSAs)
The GCC is in the process of developing a series of Public Service Announcements (PSAs). The PSAs are designed to convey a wide range of topics to the general public in a positive manner--leading to an increased awareness about the grasslands of British Columbia and about the programs and initiatives currently being undertaken by the GCC.
The PSAs will feature two animated characters: the calf and the curlew. The first PSA will focus on fragmentation and development; the second PSA in the series will discuss invasive plants and their effect on the grasslands.
Lac du Bois Interpretive Site
In 2002--after much discussion regarding the heavy usage and subsequent damage in the Lac du Bois Grasslands Park near Kamloops, BC--the GCC decided it was time to take action. To help curb the damage and inform people of how to use the grasslands in the region in a responsible way, the GCC worked with its partners to create a series of three signs throughout the park. The signs demonstrate why some forms of recreation are more harmful than others, the value of the grasslands in the park and the importance of the Lac du Bois region to the rest of the province. Through cooperation and perseverance, the GCC managed to make Lac du Bois a more protected ecosystem.
Spirit in the Grass: The Cariboo-Chilcotin's Forgotten Landscape
In cooperation with Chris Harris, the GCC is working towards the creation of a coffee table book about the grasslands of the Cariboo that will illustrate both the beauty and the fragility of the areas.
