The GCC and its partners have recognized that television can be a powerful tool for increasing public awareness and heightening appreciation for the grasslands. The GCC is in the initial stages of producing three to five Public Service Announcements (PSAs) for television ranging from 30 seconds to two minutes in length.
The PSA series will raise awareness about grassland issues such as:
These PSAs will use positive messages to promote the conservation and stewardship of BC's grasslands.
The PSAs will feature two animated characters that represent different aspects of the grasslands. The curlew will stand for the species at risk in grassland regions while the calf is a representation of the ranching industry and the role it plays in British Columbia.
The first PSA will focus on the effects of fragmentation and development on these two aspects of the grasslands; the second will focus on invasive plants. Both PSAs are due out in the summer of 2007.
